Jack and Joan Hall – A Love Story

Jack Allison Hall and Mary Joan Hall passed away in Lodi, CA within three weeks
of each other after being married for seventy three years. The Lord called them home together. Jack was born in Kitanning PA on May 10, 1924, to John George and Flora
Hall. Jack was the youngest of three boys, Caryle and George were his brothers. Jack
passed away peacefully on January 31, 2017. Joan was born in Erie, PA on October 19,
1924, to Dominic and Agnes Held. Joan was the eldest of eight children. Claire, Kurt, Dick, Rita, Margie, John and Bernie were her brothers and sisters. Joan passed away peacefully on February 24, 2017.
Jack and Joan met on a train between Pittsburg and Erie PA in the fall of 1943 and
were married on February 2, 1944. Some family members believed the marriage
would not last. After Jack was discharged from the Army in 1946, they started their home in Erie, PA. Jack went into the newspaper business and Joan held a variety of
office management positions.
Jack and Joan had five boys: Ken (Jean), Rick (Nancy) and John (Sue) were born in
Erie, PA, Mark and Steve (Trish) were born in Southern California. They moved from
Pennsylvania to California in 1952. They scouted the way out west for their family, as
many of their family members (brothers, sisters and parents) joined them in their relocation to Southern California. In the newspaper business Jack and Joan both
helped shape and influence the lives of hundreds of newspaper boys in El Monte,
CA.
In retirement Jack and Joan moved to Cameron Park to be closer to family. Above
all else, they cherished their family and were very involved with their children and
grandchildren's lives. They loved adventure and traveling, having visited all 50 states and many other countries. Jack and Joan also developed many friendships in Cameron Park and Folsom that usually revolved around playing cards and enjoying desert. Jack and Joan
are survived by their five sons, 14 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. Services will be held for both of them on May 10, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.
